COFFEE FOR PEOPLE WHO GIVE A DAMN.
About coffee, people and pleasure. About the countless daily choices and occasional big ones that make up our lives.
Peace Coffee is delicious and grown only by farmers we know and trust—and who trust us.
HOW WE DO THINGS MATTERS
A LETTER FROM OUR CEO & OWNER

Peace started as a non-profit to aid farmers. It took wild optimism, guts, and a little crazy to get us here: We make exceptional coffee while doing right by everyone in the process.

Oscar Alonzo, of COMSA, began growing coffee in Honduras at 17

Founding farmer members of Manos Campesinas Coop

Karla Portillo, is a third generation Honduran farmer at COMSA

Like daughter, like mother — future farmer at ANEI Co-op in Colombia
Our farmer partners provide courage as well as coffee. I’ve sat beside friends and colleagues as they’ve shared stories about going into hiding for defending their farming communities from the Shining Path in Peru or lost family members in civil wars and uprisings.
They didn’t give up. They grew.

We have the privilege of partnering with those working to overcome systems stacked against them, governments that at best don’t care about them or worse, are warring against them. Maybe abroad, maybe in our backyards. All in a world that has way too much going on to pay much attention.
Peace customers pay attention.
As climate and cultures keep shifting, we remain focused on the real good we do with you. In changing times, we all need anchors and energy. And yeah, that often starts with a great cup of coffee.

1996
The Institute for Agriculture & Trade Policy, our nonprofit founders, purchase two containers of Mexican coffee at a fair price

1997
Still in startup mode, we start making deliveries to local food co-ops and coffee shops by bicycle and we’ve never stopped

1999
Co-found Cooperative Coffees with nine other like-minded roasters to directly import fair trade & organic coffee and remain their largest member

2002
Move to an eco-friendly building with solar panels, geothermal heating, and a rooftop garden in south Minneapolis that is still our office and roasting HQ

2018
For the first time earn our B Corp certification and Lee Wallace, our CEO, purchases the Peace Coffee from our non-profit owners

2019
We refresh the brand and packaging with the help of a talented local design group but still keep the vibrant spirit hat makes us unique and well-loved

2020
We install a second roasting machine, expanding roasting capacity and ability to purchase even more fair trade and organic coffee which is at the heart of our "in it for good" mission
We certainly don’t have all the answers, but here are the things we’ll keep doing at Peace Coffee:
Listen to each other, and be kind and caring.
Uphold our standards of exceptional taste, quality and equity.
Tell a story about the world and our community that is rich and vibrant, open and accepting. One based not in fear but in possibility.
It’s worked so far.
Protect your peace,
Lee Wallace,
CEO & Owner, Peace Coffee
