Orange Clove Syrup
A customer favorite for many years, this syrup is added to an Americano in our shops starting in December for our Fireside Chat. As an answer to many requests from our favorite patrons, we present the recipe for our orange clove syrup.
Use your syrup with a home espresso machine and hot water for a homespun version of the Fireside Chat, pour it into your coffee with fresh cream, or use a smidge to sweeten an old-fashioned to make your spirits bright!
- 1.5 oz (by volume) whole cloves
- 1 tbsp orange oil
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 cups water
In a medium saucepan, bring water and cloves to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
Add sugar and stir to dissolve. Add orange oil and stir to incorporate.
Using a strainer, to remove the whole cloves, pour finished syrup into a storage container. Syrup will keep at room temperature for 4 weeks, longer if refrigerated. Discard if mold develops.
Build a Fireside Chat
Fill a 10 - 12 fluid ounce mug with a 1.5 - 2 fluid ounce espresso shot, add 15 grams of orange clove syrup. Add nearly boiling water to the drink until your desired strength is reached. Enjoy!
Build an Old-fashioned
Pour 0.5 fluid ounce of orange clove syrup into a cocktail mixing glass. Add 1.5 - 2 fluid ounces of whiskey (rye or bourbon) or brandy. Add 2 - 3 dashes of aromatic cocktail bitters. Add ice and stir with a cocktail spoon until well chilled. Strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice. Enjoy!
