What’s your favorite fact about coffee?
According to legend, as coffee was introduced to Italy, the Roman Clergy were convinced it was the”drink of the devil” and asked the Pope to ban it. The Pope instead asked to taste it first. After just one sip (or perhaps cupping), he decided that coffee was so delicious, it must be blessed and decided to baptize the drink. Few can resist the charms of coffee.
What’s your dream job?
Part naturalist, part satirical-documentary storyteller– essentially a sassy David Attenborough.
What’s your favorite pairing with coffee?
Chilly mornings and a buttermilk scone.
If you could have coffee with anyone, living or dead, who’d it be?
Annie Dillard or my childhood dog (coincidentally also named Annie).
Where are you to be found when not at Peace Coffee?
Wandering a bit off trail at any of the state or city parks, still deciding in the chocolate aisle of the grocery store, or home trying to make the perfect Sangria.
What’s your favorite fashion faux pas to commit?
I have to say it because it’s a classic– I am not against socks and sandals. On an early fall day too cold for just sandals and too warm for boots? Man, sockdals are a dream.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Central America, I’d love to visit Mexico, El Salvador, Cuba, and revisit Honduras. Maybe it’s the coffee talk lately, but I’m definitely itching to return to Honduras. I’d also love to learn more about traditional food from each of these countries.
If someone made you into a cartoon or comic character, what would that character’s most prominent feature be?
Her freckles– including the one in my eye.
What is the best bike ride you’ve ever taken & why?
I grew up in Illinois and am fond of my first experiences riding the Illinois Prairie Path. The trail is made of converted railway and connects a number of parks in the Chicagoland area. It’s mostly nostalgic, but also genuinely beautiful and simple ride.
What music keeps you going while at work?
These days I would choose Andrew Bird, The Beach Boys, First Aid Kit, playlists of Motown, Alt-country, or something that seems to pair well with the weather/season.
