New Year, New B Corp Score!

The process towards becoming a B Corporation starts with a comprehensive impact assessment in which a corporation must score at least 80. The average score is 50.9. Our newest score of 118.7 is 18.2 points higher than our last and is over double the average! We’re proud of our score, and we’re even more proud of what we stand for.

Governance: 14.7

Governance considers our mission, engagement on social and environmental impact, ethics, and transparency. We scored 1.8 on Mission & Engagement, 2.8 on Ethics & Transparency, and 10 for being Mission Locked, which involves having a business model that creates a positive outcome for our community and our customers.

Workers: 18.8

This component examines the various ways we take care of our workers. We scored an 8.2 for Financial Security, a 4.0 on Health, Wellness, and Security, a 3.2 on Career Development, and a 3.2 on Engagement & Satisfaction.

Community: 47.3

The community score takes into consideration our engagement and impact on the communities from which we hire, operate, and source from. We earned a 4.9 for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, a 4.3 for Economic Impact, a 2.2 on Civic Engagement & Impact, and a 6.1 on Supply Chain Management. We also earned a 29.4 on Supply Chain Poverty Alleviation for an intentionally designed business model to create a positive outcome for stakeholders. Our mission accounts for this share of the score and reflects our commitment to building long-term relationships with our farmer partners.

Environment: 35.1

This category took into consideration our environmental management practices, plus our impact on water, air, land, and biodiversity. We earned a 3.3 on Environmental Management, a 2.1 on Air & Climate, .8 on Water, and 8.8 on Land & Life. We also picked up a 13.5 on Toxic Reduction/Remediation. This score is thanks to our 100% organic purchases and the Climate, Carbon, and Coffee Initiative, a fund we contribute to that incentivizes farmers to mitigate carbon and regenerate their soil.

Customers: 2.6

This category examined our stewardship of our customers through the lens of our products, ethical marketing, data and security, and ways to channel feedback. First and foremost, our work benefits smallholder farmers. Our mission is to craft exceptional-tasting, 100% organic and fair-trade coffee that sustains the livelihoods of the people who grow, roast, and sell it.

Total: 118.7

Whether you’re new to our coffee or have been here since the beginning, it’s a pleasure to be a part of your mornings, workdays, brunches, and gatherings. We’ll continue to do what we love the most: being starry-eyed dreamers who bring neighbors, farmers, and communities together…and make some really good coffee. Thank you for your support!
