One of the most compelling stories for us at Peace Coffee is the story of our origin. If you’ve ever met me, you’ve likely heard me explain that we were born out of late-night conversations between Mexican coffee farmers and our parent organization, the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP). The year was 1996, coffee prices were at all-time lows, and farmers stressed that what they most needed to support their families and communities was someone to pay them a fair price for their harvest.
From that first conversation to today, Peace Coffee continues to listen to the needs of our farmer partners. The message we hear most on our visits to origin is that there is still a large amount of coffee produced that doesn’t have a fair trade buyer. We take our job seriously to expand the market share for our farmer partners exceptional coffee. This means we are always looking for new places to offer their beans.
Last year, we met with a coffee buyer from Target and learned they were interested in making room for us on their shelves. Starting this month you will be able to purchase Peace Coffee in select Target stores throughout the Midwest. This relationship increases our ability to buy even more high quality, organic coffee at industry leading prices from our farmer partners. This year alone we will be able to buy 700,000 pounds of coffee from small farmer cooperatives around the world. I’d like to thank all of our current customers for their loyal patronage. We couldn’t do this without your support!
