Fall Colors Have Never Tasted So Good
Friday, September 9, 2016
The State Fair is past, which means that summer must be winding down. We’ve updated our menu to keep pace with the seasons, and transition you smoothly from the summer lemonades to pumpkin spice season.
To help ease you along, we’ve mixed up the Fall Fizz. Available only in September, this sparkling house-made soda brings the seasons together in a tall, refreshing glass: 100% cranberry juice concentrate plus sparkling water spiked with a shot of fresh rosemary syrup. It’s a little spicy, a little autumnal, yet ready to quench the thirst of those last hot days—in short, custom made for September.
Leaves are starting to yellow, and that got us thinking about a classic drink, one that’s been enjoyed for centuries: Golden Milk. Inspired by the Ayurvedic classic, our version combines cow, soy or hazelnut milk with a spicy, revitalizing blend of turmeric, black pepper and ginger and sweetened with Minnesota honey. It sips like your favorite steamer, with a sweet kick and a warming welcome to autumn.
Our Harvest Moon Latté is becoming a seasonal classic. We take the week’s best squash (starting with an acorn squash and changing as the season turns) and roast it up in house. Puréed with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, it becomes a base on which to layer steamed milk (your choice) and a shot of espresso.
Finally, while you may not consider it wholly nutritious, we’re pretty sure you won’t disagree with the rest of Kerouac’s assessment: “I ate another apple pie and ice cream; that's practically all I ate all the way across the country, I knew it was nutritious and it was delicious, of course.” ? Jack Kerouac, On the Road
Kerouac claims that the pie got better and the ice cream ever creamier as his epic road trip took him deeper and deeper into the Midwest. Starting in October, we're paying tribute to his classic trip and bragging a little about our local specialties with a mug of local apple cider laced with house-made caramel sauce topped with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon. Fuel your wanderlust!
