The
Origins of Roots Blend Espresso
As
Common Roots Café was being developed, owner
Danny Schwartzman approached Peace Coffee with
interest in having an espresso specifically
designed to be enjoyed as a straight shot.
Derek
was the mastermind behind the creation:
"I
started out by roasting 5 different coffees in
what we refer to as espresso style. This means
that we let the coffee spend more time in between
first and second crack than we do with a regular
roast. Then with Keith and Ryan, we tried the
coffees as single origin Espressos noting all
flavor nuances and flavor perceptions. From there
I had the information needed to begin blending the
recipe ideas I had come up with. I had basically
three different flavor profiles for potential
espresso recipes. I created five different blends
for each flavor profile idea. We once again tasted
the blends narrowing it down to three espresso
recipes."
Here
he describes the final product:
"It
was a delicious espresso with prominent herbal
notes, spiciness, dark chocolate, coating mouth
feel, excellent crema, and a clean lingering
finish. An espresso that was born to be enjoyed
alone in a demitasse."
A
key element to this blend is our Ethiopian coffee.
Now, we admittedly roast our Ethiopian light, and
we like it that way. But here is an opportunity to
experience what our Ethiopian coffee would taste
like as a medium roast. When brewed in a French
Press or a drip coffee maker, this delicately
crafted blend offers notes of dried plums, toasted
walnuts and sweet spices.
Common
Roots and Peace Coffee have decided that we will
offer this incredible blend by the pound, but only
on our website
and at Common Roots.
Enjoy
this blend, another of several smaller unique
coffees that we are offering in addition to our
standard favorites. Look for a small run of
Ethiopian Harrar coming in January.
