Love
Your Coffee
One
of great things about being a member of Coop
Coffees is the relationships and connections we
have with the farmers and organizations that
produce our coffee. At the end of this September,
Lee and I will be traveling as representatives of
Peace Coffee and members of Coop Coffees to
Nicaragua for the Coop Coffees Annual General
Meeting. The first three days of this trip are
going to be dedicated to the work that I do with
the Green Committee. We will be spending time with
farmers from over ten different coops from
throughout Central and South America. This will
entail open discussions and exchange of ideas
between farmers and roasters around quality,
processing methods, defects in green beans and,
the thing I'm personally most excited about,
teaching members of farming cooperatives the
basics and some nuances of roasting. Also,
recently some of the growers of the Nicaraguan
coffee that we use have been complaining about
their crop yields using organic methods. So,
Cooperative Coffees arranged for members of Maya
Vinic from Chiapas, one of the most successful
organic farming cooperatives that we work with, to
come and exchange ideas and growing tips with the
farmers of Coop Cecocafen in Nicaragua. It is this
exchange of information between roasters, farmers,
and Fair Traders born out of mutual respect that
excites me and drives me in the work that we do
here both as Peace Coffee and as members of
Cooperative Coffees.
Our
Nicaraguan coffee appears as a major player in two
of our Espresso blends, in our stellar cold press
Yeti blend, and as a single origin. Its solid
body, rich nuttiness, buttery texture and fresh
herbs make for our most consistent cup of coffee
throughout the year. All three of our roasters
love it and encourage you to lift a glass with a
friend and connect through an engaging
conversation.
