The
French Roast Switch!
by
Keith Tomlinson, Peace Coffee Head Roaster
At
some point in the year, the secret gets out. The
people that are "in" on our delicious
Mexican Dark Roast coffee become, for a couple of
months, part of the bigger group of French Roast
fans. You see, up
until this point in the year, we have been
exclusively roasting Peruvian coffee for our
French Roast. But as we await the new crop of
Peruvian coffee from Coop Pangoa, we have switched
our French Roast origin to the delicious new crop
from the Coop Maya Vinic in Chiapas, Mexico. We
do this for quality reasons, to make sure our
French Roast stays at the top of its game. And so,
for now, our French Roast is made of coffee beans
from Chiapas,
Mexico, specifically from Coop
Maya Vinic.
Another
Peru/Mexico switch that happens right around this
time is in our decaf.
French
Roast is a nicely consistent coffee because a lot
of its flavor is a result of the roast that we
use. There are going to be subtle differences
between a French Roast from Mexico and a French
Roast using Peru beans. The intensity is still
there, the dark chocolate is there, and the
smokiness is all still there. This bean, however,
comes across a little smoother and nuttier, and a
little less sweet. For you people who use the
white stuff in your coffee, this means a little
bit more to get to your "sweet spot."
Cheers,
and enjoy your powerful start to the day.
