Summer
may be gone, but the Peace Crew is taking the
seasonal change in stride -- the cooler
temperatures that signal the arrival of autumn
also offer some of the best bike riding weather of
the year. And with our new retro cycling caps,
we'll truly be riding in style. Check out this
newest addition to our Peace Gear collection in
this issue of Fair Grounds. You'll also
find Ryan's account of his hike on Guatemala's
Santa Anita eco-tourism trail, a teaser on a new
Fair Trade movie, a Community Caravan update, a
new Roaster's Corner, a new recipe and a photo
from this month's Peace Coffee Pride winner. Grab
a mug of Peace Coffee, kick back and enjoy...

by
Ryan Seibold, Peace Coffee Production Roaster
We
made our way along trails that were rugged, broken and
side winding. The trail we traversed wove through the dense and airy forest and descended
into this impressive valley, where the opposite
side looked like some sacred, growing, supernatural
thing. Across the valley we could see the Sebal,
Guatemala's great tree. We continued moving along
toward the waterfall, our destination, further
into the valley and across the makeshift bridges
connecting broken slopes that were destroyed by Hurricane Stan. We saw vistas of blue volcanoes in
the distance.

Peace
Coffee, as a member of Cooperative Coffees, was
the first organization to import coffee from the
Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union into the
United States. Black
Gold
is a full feature documentary that highlights the
impact of Fair Trade and calls for greater
commitment to these practices throughout the
coffee industry. We are flattered to be mentioned
in this movie and hope that the excellent footage,
told from the farmers voice, spurs greater Fair
Trade coffee sales everywhere.
Do
not miss this film!! Theatre release dates are
listed at www.blackgoldmovie.com/screenings.php

What
kind of bike team would Peace Coffee be without a
classic cycling cap? This hat is lots of fun to
wear and will definitely draw attention. People
might even throw you some peanuts. It has a short
brim for under a helmet or after the ride and this
all cotton cap feels good on your head. This is a "one size fits most" hat made by Verge
Sports in Poland. Click here
